American Chemical Society (ACS) Malaysia Chapter has organized its Governance Workshop on February 17-18 in Kuala Lumpur. The Workshop aimed to strategize the Chapter’s activities and disseminate the management’s procedures, plan and distribute the annual budget allocation, and as a coaching opportunity for the Chapter’s future leaders. This will support, enhance, and strengthen the succession of the Chapter leaders through continuous learning, development, and training. The two-day Workshop was participated by all the executive committee members, task force leaders, and project directors.
ACS Malaysia Chapter leaders came together during the Workshop to polish their management and leadership skills to enable them to lead successfully within the ACS community, particularly in Malaysia. All past Chapter Chairs also participated to provide useful input and guidance during the discussion sessions. Among the highlights of the Workshop was the discussion on measuring the impacts of Chapter activities, and the past success stories. An expert on impact monitoring invited to give a talk during the Workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fariza Khalid emphasized on the need to understand the overall pictures of project impact assessment before an effective monitoring can be carried out. Another highlight was the planning on events to mark the upcoming 10th year anniversary of the Chapter establishment on April 14, 2024.
Overall, the Chapter has successfully charted its direction for 2023, 2024 and beyond during the Governance Workshop, in alignment with the vision and mission. It is hoped that the activities lined up will benefit all ACS members in Malaysia and enable further collaborations with ACS and the other international chapters and student chapter as well.
