Transition Towards a Carbon-Free Future: American Chemical Society (ACS) Malaysia Chapter at the World Renewable Energy Congress XXII (WREC2023)

American Chemical Society (ACS) Malaysia Chapter is honored to co-host the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Malaysia, YB Chang Lih Kang during the World Renewable Energy Congress (WREC) XXII 2023 held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), on Monday, 17 July 2023. The international congress with the theme “Transition Towards a Carbon-Free Future” brought together scientists, policymakers, industry players in renewable energy, students and community representatives local and abroad.
ACS Malaysia Chapter as the Bronze sponsor together with ACS Publications has supported the conference publication in ACS Symposium Series, providing public access of the published materials on their platform. ACS also supported the travelling and accommodation for one of the invited speakers, Dr Wong Woei Fuh, from ies-Research, Singapore who was also the trainer for the pre-conference workshop entitled “Learn-to-Story-tell your Discovery for World Renewable Energy”. The event also witnessed the first recipient of the ACS Malaysia Travel Award, granted to Dr. Siti Aminah Mohd Noor, who is an Associate Professor at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (National Defence University of Malaysia, UPNM). Dr. Siti Aminah is also the head of Capacity Development Task Force of the Chapter. The award was presented during Congress gala dinner attended by ACS Chair-elect, ChM. Dr. Low May Lee. Dr Siti Aminah was also conferred the best oral presenter award during closing ceremony. The Chapter is proud of her achievement!
The Congress was organized by the Solar Energy Research Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (SERI-UKM) and the World Renewable Energy Network (WREN) in collaboration with the National Nanotechnology Center (NNC), and MOSTI. A signing event to mark the collaboration between NanoMalaysia Berhad, Petronas, UMW and MGTC for the implementation of the Mobile Hydrogen Refueling Station Project was also held during the opening ceremony of the Congress. Also present during the opening ceremony were the Secretary-General (KSU) of MOSTI Datuk Ts. Dr. Haji Aminuddin bin Hassim, Deputy Secretary-General (TKSU) (Technology Development) MOSTI, Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Affairs UKM Prof. Dato’ Dr. Wan Kamal Mujani, Director General of WREN Prof Ali Sayigh, Chairman of WREC 2023 Prof. Dato’ Ts. Dr. Kamaruzzaman Sopian, and Deputy Secretary of the Division (Policy), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia Mrs. Suraya Hani Saleh.
